No, that will break the package.

5.1 App-V format is backward compatible with 5.0 SP3, so you have an option to sequence on 5.1 and deploy on 5.0 SP3 also.

Would renaming the .appv file to a .zip file, extracting the data and editing the AppXManifest.xml file that way work?

Yes, we have to edit the DeploymentConfig file because we are currently running 5.0 SP2 HF4 so we are unable to access the AppXManifest file. We have not updated yet.

That sounds like you edited the external DeploymentConfiguration file and not the internal AppXManifest one. Were you sure to apply that to the package at add time?

When you open the xml file with ACE and select machine configuration, there is a Terminate Child Processes tab which gives you a dropdown and you are able to select the acad.exe. Then it shows up like this in the xml source.

Path="[{AppVPackageRoot}]\AUTOCAD 2015\ACAD.EXE"
